Mikey Dee

2010…..jeeez! It doesn’t feel like almost 2 years since Mikey’s been in China pushing UK music as a DJ.

“I remember putting on my first shows back in 2008 here at clubs that were already deep underground but still popular with Foreigners and Chinese people who love dance music. Since then I’ve played at major indoor and outdoor raves and festivals like INMUSIC and ZOO FESTIVAL, I’ve been interviewed in colour in 3 of the local magazines, I’ve played at 8 of the cities best and most glamorous [and worst] venues, and hosted and promoted my own event RIDDIM at Club Obi-Wan [now in month 6 and going strong], DJ’d in a boat, on a beach and an aircraft hanger…hosted at award ceremonies for airlines and played big corporate events it’s gone nuts. I’ve learned not to just use Myspace but it’s Chinese equivalent Douban, and not just Twitter but it’s Chinese copy, FanFou. I don’t Youtube it, I upload to Youku!

But it’s not been easy breaking new music to people [the young Chinese and others from all over the world] as most aren’t familiar with our unique UK take on things that involve beats and bass. My latest spin on educating the local clubbers is by featuring my mixes online to TIME OUT in order to have a platform to showcase different kinds of mostly UK House.

Mikey Dee – Time Out Beijing by mobidextrous

Here’s my latest educational bit, live on the site of a magazine that gets delivered to about 90,000 people every month here in Beijing. It’s a big look for the UK & UK Music. The mix is episode1 in what I hope will be a series of slots on this and other big local websites.

I’ve promised Spoonface I will blog every now as interesting stuff happens and I’ll try and be true to that.
